'This
is a great finishing hole - a dogleg to the left, with the
safest landing area straight ahead at about 235 metres. A daring
player who chooses instead to fly over the trees on the left
can set up the easiest approach to a well-protected green which
is slightly crowned. It is not
easy to duck the challenge of this hole, as a player who takes
an iron off the tee may have too much to do with his second shot.

Tom Kite is seen at the 18th during his reconnaissance mission
before the 1997 Ryder Cup. The U.S. captain has reached the safe
straight-ahead landing area about 235 metres from the tee. Many
pros over the years have tangled with the trees on the left of
the fairway, (behind
and out of picture), trying to fly over them to set up the easiest
approach (on the left side of the visible trees) to the well
protected green.
