Dual Celebration for Volvo Masters
This year’s Volvo Masters, the end-of-season flagship of the European Tour has double cause to celebrate as the countdown begins towards the Valderrama showpiece from 1st – 4th November 2007.
Club de Golf Valderrama will celebrate in style this year as the Volvo Masters commemorates its 20th anniversary, the longest-running single sponsorship in European golf.
Indian Jeev Milkha Singh has confirmed that he will defend the title he won in such style last year, with only the top 60 on the European Tour eligible to play the event that traditionally decides not only who is the Volvo Masters champion but also the winner of the Order of Merit.
A programme of special 20th anniversary celebrations will be announced closer to the event, which is being staged at Valderrama, mainland Europe’s finest golf course for the 15th time.
And, the Volvo Masters / Valderrama / European Tour success story is set to run and run with the recent announcement between the parties that the Volvo Masters will continue to be played over the universally-acclaimed course at least until 2010. |

Commented Mel Pyatt, President & CEO of Volvo Event Management, who was with the then Valderrama president Don Jaime Ortiz-Patiño and European Tour Chief Executive George O’Grady in establishing the Volvo Masters in 1988, “The Volvo Masters, Valderrama and the PGA European Tour have been inexorably linked over a rich and exciting period for European golf and I am delighted that we are celebrating both the 20th anniversary of the Volvo Masters and the fact that this year’s event presents a platform from which to take the tournament to even greater heights over the next three years.”

Said George O’Grady, Chief Executive of the European Tour, “For the past 20 years, the Volvo Masters has provided a dramatic climax to our International Schedule and it is fitting that we are celebrating a partnership between Volvo, Turismo Andaluz and The European Tour that will continue well into a third decade.
“In 1988, when we signed the initial agreement to stage the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, it would have been difficult to envisage that, in 2007, we would be celebrating this 20th anniversary and looking forward - thanks to the commitment of Volvo and Turismo Andaluz - to a minimum of another three years of the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, taking us through to 2010.”
The €4million Volvo Masters takes place at Club de Golf Valderrama from 1st – 4th November 2007.
